The words ‘smoked chilli porter’ are a certain way to grab my attention. I love porters, I love chilli beers and I love smokey flavours., so Metalman were always likely to be onto a winner with me with this one. They pitch the level of the chilli just right, gentle at first, but building up to a lovely slow burn in the back of the throat of the course of the can. Where Heat Sink doesn’t do as well is as a pure porter, it doesn’t quite have the complexity and depth of flavour of the very best porters, and whilst the smokiness is there, it is also slightly weak.
So Heat Sink turned out to be a minor disappointment to me, if only because I had such high expectations. It is still an excellent beer.
